Luck of the Irish

September 14, 2017

In July I was able to travel to Ireland to teach a photography workshop.  I have traveled all over the world, but I was nervous to travel to Ireland.  Nervous for the silliest reason.  The real reason I was nervous because I knew I had to drive on the other side of the car, on the other side of the road.  That scared the crap out of me.   I knew that the roads in Ireland would be much more narrow than in the States and adding that to the wrong side of the road and car gave me heart palpitations like you wouldn’t believe.  BUT GUESS WHAT?  It totally was fine!  Well kinda.  I did hit a few curbs.   Don’t ask me to parallel park either…cause I will get out of the car and make someone else do it.

Ireland is so beautiful!  It’s everything I imagined it to be.  Green patchwork rolling hills, cobblestone fences dividing the property lines, SHEEP everywhere. Oh the colors, all the beautiful colors.  I was told that there is 40 shades of green in Ireland and I believe it.  The colors of the buildings, the doors and all the beautiful flowers! So many beautiful farms, quaint towns and the kindest people in the world.

I was completely in awe of the authentic and genuine people I met on my journey.  I don’t know if the word ‘kind’ adequately describes how insanely beautiful the Irish souls are.

It seriously was like a dream.  I want you to imagine you’re driving down the road and turning a bend in the road and there is a castle.  You drive a little further and you cross a bridge to find another castle, an abbey and a ancient graveyard.  Proceeding forward you see another beautiful castle and once again you pinch yourself that you are in Ireland.  The only thing that would have made it anymore perfect would be to stumble upon a leprechaun.

Now let’s talk about the super amazing accents?  I could listen to them all day long.  Upon asking a guy at a local pub restaurant if he could fit 4 more for the evening he said “I could fit ‘farty-far”  Forever it is etched in my brain and heart!

Would I go back to Ireland? Heck to the yes!
